Recently I was asked on my Facebook about several questions on Plaxico, and it got me thinking that this would be a great subject for a post, the questions were:
"Do you think Plaxico Burress will return to football after prison? To what team, will he still be the player he was? Do you think prison has humbled him just as it did for Micheal Vick?"
Now Plaxico release date is still up in the air, but his agent, who is Drew Rosenhaus is highly optimistic that he will be released before training camp next season. Because he has a agent, I would highly assume that he will be returning to football, and I hope he does. About the team that he goes to, I honestly have no idea, but there is a couple of options. The New York Jets have been rumored to be exploring the possibility of signing him once he is released. Another team I would not rule out, is the New York Giants. I think, if Plax promises to change his off-field behavior they would be more then welcome to have him return. Another team that might need a receiver is the Washington Redskins, but this team is very unlikely. According to Plaxicos agent, he already has two teams in mind. I would assume its between the Jets and the Giants, Plaxico really loves the city. Ultimately that will come down to who will give him the better deal. Now on his abilities, I think he will still have them, and it honestly comes down to how much of a workout he is putting into while in jail. If he comes out as fit, or fitter than he was before he went in, he will pick right up. And I think like Vick, its going to take him a year or so to get back on track, but once he does he will be a dominate receiver for a few years. And I would hope that his full 2 year sentence is going to humble him like it did with Vick. I mean those two were a lot of like in their attitudes, and its likely going to produce the same results, or at least I hope it does.
Honestly, being a Giants fan I would love to see him come back to the G-men. I mean Nicks, and Smith are both solid receivers but they are nothing like Plaxico. I think with Coughlin as the coach still, and being a solid disciplinarian that this would be a better fit for him, than with the players coach in Rex Ryan. I am sure within the next few months this is going to be a very hot topic!
Thanks for the question Breighanne!
A reminder to everyone, please feel free to ask me questions like that or even comment with your thoughts on my posts! It gives me something to talk about, and lets me know you guys are reading! And thanks to everyone that has been reading this to this point!
You're welcome! Thanks for your views. We could only hope that he comes back NYG.
ReplyDeleteI know right! I honestly do hope he comes back. i mean minus the fact of his off field issues, hes the boost the giants need. And him and Eli have a connection like no other! Or they did while he was playing! Breighanne, what do you think on this topic? Do you think he still has a place on the Giants? Do you think fans would forgive him?
